The WAW

FUE System

The WAW FUE hair transplant system has made FUE (follicular unit extraction) faster, easier, and more productive. This system offers many advantages over the traditional strip or follicular unit transplantation (FUT) procedures. The WAE FUE system can help you obtain a greater number of hair per graft, a much lower transaction rate, reduced scars, faster harvesting, and fewer missing grafts.

The WAW FUE system uses a uniquely shaped extraction device, developed to mirror the natural shape of the follicular unit more closely. The device consists of punches that have an external border and an internal border. This flat punch has a square-shaped external border, sharp enough to cut the scalp under pressure and at low velocity. On the other hand, the internal border is sufficiently smooth to dissect the graft forward without cutting or transecting it.

This design allows Dr. Barnard, Dr. Golio, and Clinician Daniels to extract a larger quantity of high-quality grafts without making a more extensive incision, therefore decreasing the risk of damaging healthy follicular units. The WAW FUE system creates an incision far smaller (about 0.8 to 0.9 millimeter) that speeds up the healing process and limits visible scarring.

How WAW FUE Works

At Long Island Hair Transplant Center, we offer an advanced WAW FUE system to our patients, delivering a dull and sharp punch to penetrate the skin with significantly less trauma. The trumpet-shaped punch can facilitate oscillation and rotation, allowing for deeper penetration to the hair shaft without damaging the hair follicle. This deep penetration is necessary for the survival of the follicle after being transplanted to the recipient site.

The WAW FUE extraction device has a suction feature during the punch that speeds up the hair follicle extraction and reduces procedure time. It has the lowest transection an incision placed across a follicle that causes damage rate of all FUE devices, with reports at lower than 4%. Not only does this technique preserve the health of harvested follicles, but it also creates a graft with an increased rate of survival.

WAW Instruments: Tools and Devices to Create Better Hair Transplants

Hair restoration has enjoyed great strides over the past years. One of which is Dr. Jean Devroye, who developed his state-of-the-art Hybrid Trumpet punch, which comprises a motorized pedal and punch to extract follicular grafts. Dr. Devroye began the development of a punch that could cut the epidermis at low speeds and yet still dissect the graft without transecting the follicles within it. The most advanced Hybrid Trumpet punch works for hair transplant doctors who take pride in providing the highest quality results possible to their patients.

The new version (commercial model) of the WAW FUE System now offers its wireless control of the three basic dials to obtain optimum results of FUE. The first dial adjusts the angle or arc of oscillation. In contrast, the second dial alters the speed of oscillation, and the third dial enhances the initial speed of the punch. With these features, you can modify the acceleration speed, oscillation mode, and angulation. This device also delivers beneficial scoring counting that you can reset anytime.

The Hybrid Trumpet punch offers the advantages of dull and sharp punches. With a 90-degree outer edge and a smooth funnel-shaped inner edge, the Hybrid Trumpet punch makes penetration into the skin more gentle and less traumatic. In that case, the Hybrid Trumpet punch works like a dissection tool rather than a cutting one.

With the threading movement, you can go deeper without damaging hair follicles, which is essential for regrowth. With the punch’s suction effect, the extraction speed increases.

Deep penetration combined with high rotation speed and wide oscillation results in torsion of the follicular unit because it’s tied to the subcutaneous vessel. It undergoes definitive traction downward and gets buried, possibly reducing the speed and depth. The ultimate goal of the invention is to produce FUE grafts similar to FUT grafts and get results similar to that obtained with the FUT. However, going in-depth of the benefits of this revolutionized innovation includes:

  • To reduce transection and pairing rates
  • To decrease all the injuries that follicular units undergo during the extraction
  • To lessen the number of missing grafts and the intrinsic quality of the extraction

It’s rewarding for doctors to experience high-quality grafts and faster completion of the procedure. You now have grafts that are less transected, plumper, and richer in hairline design.

WAW FUE Hair Transplant Benefits

If you’re thinking about getting an FUE hair transplant in Long Island, you want results that are as comfortable, pain-free, and efficient as possible. With the WAW FUE system, hair transplant technology has gained a higher level of efficacy and success in developing instruments, combining techniques, and defining surgical steps that allow patients to receive a perfect solution for their hair loss concerns consistently.

With this specific design and approach, it brings the following benefits:

01
More grafts and hair
02
Much lower transection rate
03
Diminished scars
04
Faster extraction
05
Less missing grafts

More grafts and hair

Follicular units splay out and have a conical shape. Your doctor raises the punch diameter to extract the whole graft using sharp punches.

As a result, damages to the surrounding hair can occur, decreasing the number of grafts obtained. The Hybrid Tornado punch with its unique shape allows your doctor to collect higher quality and an increased amount of grafts.

Much lower transection rate

The Hybrid Tornado punch has a 90-degree outer edge that allows your doctor to penetrate the skin easily. At the same time, a smooth inner edge (funnel-shaped) handles the graft carefully, working in a vertical motion. The HT punch works like a dissection tool in a less aggressive way. Transection rates drop between 3% to 8%.

Diminished scars

The smooth inner shape permits the necessity to raise the diameter of the punches to avoid transections. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about getting large scars on the skin.

Faster extraction

The Hybrid Tornado punch requires more time during the penetration process, leaving the grafts untied. These high-quality grafts make the extraction process simpler, resulting in an overall time saving of the procedure.

Less missing grafts

Dull punches are bound to bury the grafts, while the sharp punches tend to transect them. The Hybrid Tornado punch avoids these issues by working with moderate pressure along with the sucking effect of the funnel-shaped inner edge that will significantly reduce the missing grafts rate.

What Is the Best FUE Hair Transplant Method?

With the WAW FUE system, the chance of damaging the hair follicle becomes significantly reduced. The ideal FUE device should deliver great flexibility in removing follicular units. The follicular units grow in a conical shape that spreads wider at the base. In turn, the width of the punch must expand when it reaches the base of the follicle to get the entire follicular unit without damaging it.

Increasing the diameter as you go deeper increases the risk of traumatizing some portion of the follicular units or the surrounding follicles.

It’s much easier to remove the graft (given fewer attachments). This graft is more elevated so that it can be gently removed, preventing the stronger, riskier, and damaging movements required to extract the graft when the incision isn’t deep enough. It also leaves more fatty tissue covering the graft, protecting the graft from possible damage due to dehydration and trauma.

WAW FUE-Assisted Device

The WAW FUE system allows Dr. Barnard, Dr. Golio, and the team of hair restoration specialists to use a punch that could cut the epidermis at low speeds and yet still dissect the graft without transecting the follicles within it. In that case, it is possible to penetrate deeper with reduced speed, as the resistance will progressively decrease. As a result, it can yield a higher number of hairs per graft with the lowest rate of damage while accelerating the process of harvesting. This state-of-the-art hair restoration device has an excellent success rate, and we love that our patients spend less time at the doctor’s office during a hair transplant procedure.
