Female Hair Restoration

What Causes Female Hair Loss?

Hair loss in women may occur to genetics or environmental causes, or maybe a combination of the two. Female pattern baldness caused by genetics is called androgenetic alopecia. Genetics also play an essential role in developing conditions such as thyroid disease and lupus, both of which can cause hair loss.

Female pattern baldness can also be an indication of a polycystic ovarian syndrome. Diet and stress may contribute to baldness in female patients, as with certain medications. In addition, steroids, birth control pills, antidepressants, and thyroid medications are among those substances that can affect hair growth. Moreover, autoimmune disorders like alopecia areata may also cause the body to shed its hair.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

Traditionally, hair transplants cut a strip of skin from the back or side of your head and extract individual hair follicles. These follicles then get transplanted into the balding or thinning areas of your scalp. The procedure is effective; however, it leaves a scar at the hair removal site.

With the rise of FUE, the dream of no visible scarring in the donor area is now a reality. In FUE, the grafts get extracted as individual follicular units in a two-step or three-step technique, while the method of implantation remains the same as in the traditional FUT.

By selectively harvesting small groups of follicular units, Dr. Barnard, Dr. Golio, and Clinician Daniels can collect a robust hair growth engine while leaving minimally invasive pin-prick-sized marks behind. Doctors place the healthy follicles stylishly at the site where you want them most to provide you with natural hair that is truly your own.

Cole FUE System

Cole Instruments delivers several hair transplant products to assist hair transplant experts in hair restoration surgery. These instruments improve patient results and increase overall efficacy. Indeed, hair transplant procedures are challenging and can take considerable time.

Cole Instruments recognizes these facts. They are created and designed for donor harvesting, graft storage, recipient site preparation, graft preparation, and hairline design. To learn how the Cole FUE System can revolutionize hair restoration for women, contact Long Island Hair Transplant Center today.

WAW FUE System

The WAW FUE system uses a uniquely shaped extraction device, developed to mirror the natural shape of the follicular unit closely. This design allows Dr. Barnard, Dr. Golio, and Clinician Daniels to extract a larger quantity of high-quality grafts without making a larger incision, therefore decreasing the risk of damaging healthy follicular units. Dr. Barnard, Dr. Golio and/or Clinician Daniels are hair replacement experts who have adopted this advanced FUE system.

Ellis FUE System

The Ellis FUE System is a simple and affordable automated punch device that can enhance a strip harvest procedure. It can also be used as a stand-alone device for a full FUE hair transplant.

Topical Treatments

Hair restoration experts Dr. Barnard, Dr. Golio, and Clinician Daniels can help you address your hair loss concerns. Topical treatments such as finasteride and Minoxidil may work for you.

Minoxidil, also known by its brand name Rogaine, dilates blood vessels and allows blood to flow smoothly. It’s believed to work by partially expanding hair follicles and lengthening the growth phase of the hair cycle. They also offer finasteride (Propecia) to their male patients to prevent hair follicle miniaturization, thereby stopping hair loss. This hair loss cessation occurs by decreasing the levels of DHT, the enzyme responsible for hair loss, in the body. While finasteride has not been FDA approved for female patients due to its possible link to congenital disabilities, some studies show that it can be effective among women.

Injections for Hair Loss

At Long Island Hair Transplant Center, Dr. Barnard, Dr. Golio, and Clinician Daniels can take advantage of the power of your blood to address thinning hair. You plasma can be isolated by drawing a sample and purifying it in a centrifuge. On the other hand, platelets in your blood are responsible for the clotting factor, and together they form a powerful serum that aids in healing. When this blood gets injected at the site of balding and thinning areas of your scalp, it stimulates your dermal papilla cells at the base of your follicles. When activated, these follicles increase the production of beta-catenin, the protein associated with new hair growth. This protein supports follicles at their root, elevating your ability to grow natural locks with your cells.

Eligible Candidates

During your initial consultation, Dr. Barnard, Dr. Golio, and Clinician Daniels can determine if you are an ideal candidate for female hair restoration surgery. If you have areas of healthy follicles on the back of your head, then you may be an eligible candidate for follicular unit extraction (FUE). Otherwise, our hair transplant experts can explore topical solutions and dietary adjustments to help you achieve your hair loss goals.

Preparation for Hair Restoration Treatment

During your consultation, the Long Island Hair Transplant Center staff will provide you with detailed instructions to prepare for whichever procedure you choose. You may need to stop using certain products on your hair weeks before the procedure. It is also advisable to quit smoking for a week before the surgery. You may also need to refrain from taking blood thinners that impede the clotting process. As such, it’s very important to advise Dr. Barnard, Dr. Golio, and Clinician Daniels of any medications you are taking before moving forward with any hair restoration treatment. We want to ensure your utmost safety at all costs.

Recovery and Results

Our clients say they often easily tolerate the pin-prick-sized punctures required for FUE. Although some form of irritation may occur, Dr. Barnard, Dr. Golio, and Clinician Daniels will provide you with the necessary elements to relieve any discomfort you may experience.
